The Greenville County Museum of Art (GCMA) is one of the most highly respected art museums in the country. Founded in the 1930s as a small regional gallery, the GCMA has since grown into a national institution. It is located at 420 College St, Greenville, SC 29601. In downtown Greenville on Heritage Green, the cultural campus of the City of Greenville.
In addition to its permanent collections, the museum has a strong exhibition program. Its collection explores American art through the Southern experience. Some of the artists represented include Romare Bearden, Andrew Wyeth, Leon Golub, Ronnie Landfield, and Stephen Scott Young. Moreover, the collection includes works by twentieth-century masters, including William H. Johnson and Jasper Johns.
A strong complement to its impressive collection is its focus on contemporary art. GCMA has a substantial African-American art collection, and is home to the largest institutional collection of pre-Civil War vessels by African-American potter David Drake.
The museum also features a strong program of workshops with top artists. It is also a partner with the educational television station SCETV. This partnership enables the museum to reach a broad audience of arts enthusiasts and students. Moreover, GCMA is one of the first public museums in South Carolina in over a century.

Located on Heritage Green in downtown Greenville, the Greenville County Museum of Art is open daily. Visitors are welcome to enter for free. During the day, the building is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., while on Sundays it is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with special tours available on Sundays at 2 p.m.
