Falls Park on the Reedy

Falls Park on the Reedy River is a scenic, historic park in the West End of Greenville, South Carolina. It is located at 601 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601. This park is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. It features an impressive waterfall and scenic overlooks, as well as lush gardens and nature trails. The park also has dining and recreational opportunities.

The history of the area surrounding the Reedy River dates back to 1768, when Richard Pearis began to establish a trading post. He purchased a 50,000-acre parcel of land. Over the years, industry flourished, with a variety of mills and industries developing along the river. However, by the mid-20th century, the water was not clean, and pollution was causing discoloration.

During the 1970s, the Carolina Foothills Garden Club began a cleanup effort to improve the water quality. Their efforts eventually led to the creation of Falls Park. Located on the Reedy, the park was named for the river and its spectacular falls. A paved pedestrian path connects the two sides of the park. There are public art installations, picnic areas, hiking trails, and riverside gardens.

The park is located near a number of attractions and restaurants in the West End. The historic district is filled with 19th-century buildings. Other popular stops include Market Square and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort.

Another popular attraction is the Swamp Rabbit Trail, which runs through the park. Visitors can take advantage of the 20-mile long trail to visit other attractions and schools. As an added bonus, the area includes a fitness trail and tennis and volleyball courts.

In addition to the many recreational activities available, Falls Park is home to the SC Governors School for the Arts and Humanities. The school is located in a Tuscan-inspired community and offers a residential high school for aspiring artists. If you’re looking for a place to host a large event, the Old Mill Garden is another option.
